Biography

François Pinot

I was born in 1956 in Longwy (France).

After a baccalaureate of sciences (1974), I studied harmony, counterpoint, analyse and composition at the "conservatoire national de région de Metz" in France (1975-1981), with the composer Claude Lefebvre. During that time, I also studied electronic music with the german composer Mesias Maïguashca.

From 1981 to 1983, I was an assistant in the electronic music studio of the European Center for Musical Research (CERM) in Metz (France). In 1983, I was engaged by the french ministry of culture as an engineer and assigned to work in CERM to take the responsability of the electronic music studio under Claude Lefebvre's direction.

Since 1995, I've been working as a software engineer at the french ministry of culture. I have not composed any music between 1995 and 2006. From the years before 1995, I shall keep only four works :

  • Là-haut sur la montagne (1979), analog electronic music on tape (ogg)
  • Molto e molto (1980), analog electronic music on tape (ogg)
  • Machines simples (1986), digital electronic music (Synclavier II) on tape (ogg)
  • La ligne (1993), for piano (ogg)

"Machines simples" and "La ligne" were composed using cellular automata.
